Bumper bash to get your car and cash

Beware of vehicle-bumping hijackers as a fourth incident was reported in the last month at Witbank Police Station.

Beware of vehicle-bumping hijackers as a fourth incident was reported in the last month at Witbank Police Station.
A vehicle was hijacked after suspects bumped the vehicle from behind, forcing the driver to stop and get out, making them easy targets.

On Tuesday September 6, a shaken hijacking victim walked into Witbank Police Station.
The man told police how he was on his way home, driving through the Central Business District (CBD) when the incident occurred.

The victim stopped at a crossing when another vehicle allegedly bumped into him. The man got out of his car to confront the two occupants in the other vehicle, when one of them allegedly pulled out a firearm.

The victim continued to describe to the police how he was threatened and hit with the firearm, then tied up with cable ties and forced into the boot of his own car.

The suspects allegedly drove the vehicle to a nearby bush where they stopped for a few minutes.
They drove off again and the victim reported that he was able to peep through a gap in the vehicle to see that they were somewhere on a highway.

After a while the suspects allegedly stopped the vehicle at a bridge near the N12 where they let the man out of the boot. They took all his cash along with his bank cards. They untied him and told him to run without looking back.
The man walked to the nearest ‘safe haven’ where after he was taken to report the case.

On the same day just as dawn drew over eMalahleni, Mr David Baloyi was travelling on the N12 with a truck when nature called.

“I stopped at the N12 off-ramp just to pass water and stretch my legs when a man came out from nowhere and hit me with a hammer,” Baloyi said.

After beating him up another two suspects appeared and began to tie Baloyi up.

“They chucked me into the truck and drove off. After a while the suspects took everything I had on me and threatened to kill me if I don’t give them my bankcard pin. When I gave them my personal details they dropped me off alongside the road and left with the truck,” he said sadly.

He waited a while before he untied his feet and ran to the freeway where he got assistance.

“The road users must not stop on the highway nor pick up hitch hikers, it is an open invitation for both car and truck jacking. We have warned all residents numerous times,” the police spokesperson, Cpt Eddie Hall concluded.
