Ten charged for illegal fishing

The Hawks and Crime Intelligence gathered information about the suspects who were fishing illegally at Vosman.

Ten suspects have appeared in court charged for illegal fishing.

The ten men between the ages of 21 and 52 years have already appeared before Vosman Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 29 following their arrest on Friday, August 26 for illegal fishing.

The Hawks and Crime Intelligence gathered information about the suspects who were fishing illegally at Vosman.
During the arrest the suspects were found to be transporting bags of raw fish with two vans. The value of the fish is estimated at R40 000.

The ten suspects include five South Africans: Dumisane Alfred Lubisi (52), Given Ngwajeleni Lusibi (27), Mandla Richard Masanabo (26), Bill Clinton Lubisi (21), Zailina Phoshiwe Lubisi (46) and five Mozambicans: Jaros Mayane, Elias Nkuna, Ada Bennet Malay, Salomon Alberto Vilanculoand James Sebeka.


The fish that were found by the joint operation between the Hawks and Crime Intelligence which arrested ten suspects together with two vans and the nets they use to catch the fish.

The types of fish included yellow fish, carp, black dark and barbell.

Their case has been postponed to Friday, September 2 for a formal bail application and the suspects will remain in custody.
