It was only a matter of seconds after the bang that the whole house caught fire. The house burned on Friday, July 15 at about 13:00 in Lynnville on Luthuli Street.

Smoke attracted the neighbours who came to her rescue and tried to put out the fire. Everything in the house burned except for a wardrobe and few other items. Nothing could be saved from the lounge as everything from the couches, television, room divider and other items just perished in the flames.

“I stayed alone in the house and I’m still shocked by the experience. The whole house was just in flames and smoke was all over the place. It was just fortunate that it started in the afternoon otherwise we will be talking another matter. I lost everything even the electricity box was burned, I have no electricity now,” explained Gogo Sindane.

The walls of the house were blackened because of the smoke. Neighbours and a committee member were seen helping Gogo Sindane out.

Even members of the Community Work Programme (CWP) helped with cleaning, clearing and painting but they stated that they are prepared to help out if people of the community can assist with paint and other donations to help the old lady.
