Two armed suspects hijacked a bakkie

Mr Patrick Riba was travelling from Hlalanikahleto to Extension 11 on Friday, July 8 at about 20:00. Along the way before turning left at the stop street; two suspects appeared from nowhere and pointed at him with firearms. Still shocked by the two coming from either side of the car, they forced themselves into the car.

According to information from the police both suspects speaks IsiZulu. They drove with the victim towards Kromdraai Cemetery then later took his cell phone, R50 in cash and other personal belongings. Afterwards they dropped him off and he was able to walk back to the police station to report the case. He was not hurt but he is feeling some pains but cannot recall anything.

Vosman Police Station communication officer, Captain Klaas Maloka indicated that another hijacking case in Extension 9 was reported at the station using the same method as that used with Mr Riba.

He warned motorist to always be cautious when driving during the night. He said it was important that trips are planned in advance and if it is possible to avoid travelling during the night unless you absolutely need to do so.

“Day trips are always advisable, but when travelling during the night be extra careful and try as much as you can to be safe. Check the surroundings and be conscious of the any movements,” he advised.

Police are investigation two cases of hijacking. No one has been arrested in both cases.
