The incident happened on Friday morning, July 1 at approximately 00:30 when members from Witbank Police Station received information about a television that was stolen in Spring Valley in Reyno Ridge.

Mr Bandi Sibiya told police the whereabouts of where he suspected his stolen television to be.
As the police arrived at house, they found the stolen television inside the house. The television was confiscated and booked in at the police and the suspect was arrested.

Shortly after the arrest, Sibiya and his wife went out. It was then he received a call from one of his neighbours saying that his house was on fire.

Without hesitation Sibiya and his wife jumped into their car then drove to Spring Valley, in the pitch darkness they could see an orange lit area.

As Sibiya stopped at his house, his neighbour was standing there trying to put out the fire.
Police then arrived at the house, by the time the fire department arrived there the whole house had burnt down.

“Our whole house has burnt down and we have lost everything in the fire,” said Sibiya.

The suspect appeared in Witbank Magistrates Court on Monday, July 4 in court B for a case of arson and possession of suspected stolen goods, the case was postponed for seven days for further investigation.
