“Their families are waiting for them, waiting for them to come home,” these were some of the words that lingered in the air after an accident on the old Middelburg Road (R555) claimed two lives.
On Friday, 1 July a red Volkswagen Polo and a silver Nissan Navara collided head on in a horrific accident that left the Polo almost unrecognisable. The driver of the Polo was declared dead on the scene. Paramedics tried to resuscitate one of the other passengers who had suffered fatal injury.
The passenger was also declared dead on the scene, while the other two passengers were transported to the nearest hospital with Langamed Emergency Management Services.
The driver, along with one passenger and three children, occupants of the Navara, were also transported to hospital after they sustained serious injuries.
A case of Culpable Homicide was opened at Witbank Police Station and is still under investigation.
The bodies of the deceased were not yet identified by time of print.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, and the driver of the Navara was not available for comment by time of print.
