Members of the African National Congress (ANC) and some members of community took it upon themselves to clean some graves at the Pretoria Road Memorial Cemetery.

The aim of the cleaning campaign according to Mr Thuli Nkosi was to show love and respect to their ‘comrades’ who has passed away. He also indicated that they decided to take the challenge as political activists, former MK members, former political prisoners and former political detainees to commemorate Youth Day, June 16 to clean the graves.

They consolidated the families of the departed to show that they acknowledge the pain of losing a loved one and the contributions and the sacrifices that they made.

“We want to assure them that the struggle they were engaged in was not in vain and their memories will live on. We will engage with local business people and members of the ANC to contribute to a fund to put headstones to all those without them. We want to embrace all the families who are faced with challenges to ensure that all the graves have headstones. We want also to pass the message that as the organisation is faced with many challenges of unemployment, housing shortages, inequality, unstable economy and many others. But we want to assure our people that we are going to deliver as promised and the struggle continues for a better life for all,” Nkosi concluded.
