A new response team working with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) has been established. The CPF is also the only organisation recognised by the SAPS that can assist them is crime prevention.

The unit consists of qualified specialists such as paramedics and a trauma councillor, fire fighters, qualified divers, trench and rope recovery experts, and motor vehicle extraction specialists.
This is only the tip of the iceberg as they have other exciting developments in the pipeline.

It should also be noted Brigadier Delisiwe Motha the station commander at the Witbank SAPS said that according to the South African Police Service act 68 of 1995 the CPF sector policing structures are the only recognised structure that legally assist the SAPS in the fight against crime.

The new emergency response team for the Community Policing Forum (CPF) are from left: (back) Capt JJJ Viljoen, Jacques Wagner, James Solmonds, Johan de Jongh, Clint Groenewald; (front) Pieter Erasmus, Aaron Khumalo, Brig Delisiwe Motha, Madelon Troskie, and Charles Steyn.

The statement issued gave the following reason for this:

“During the past month the management of the Witbank saps held meetings with members of Witbank 911 to get them to legally assist with the fight against crime in Witbank.”

It also stated that we’re requested to draw up a constitution in accordance with the Witbank CPF structure, which they have apparently still not done.

Brig Motha added,

“I do not want any confusion within the community of Witbank regarding the functioning of Witbank 911 and its members, they are operating on their own and are not in partnership with the Witbank SAPS.”

This is in response to posts on social media claiming the Witbank 911 and the SAPS have reached a working agreement.
The Witbank SAPS are still waiting for Witbank 911’s work procedure documents so that the provincial SAPS Legal department can approve the documents.
