Two neighbouring businesses robbed on the same night

At the first scene the victim reported that three armed suspects attacked him and tied him up.

Diedricks street in the central Business District (CBD) became a crime scene when two adjacent businesses were robbed at the same time.

On April 9 at about 02:00 in the early hours of the morning both businesses had security guards on duty patrolling the two premises.

At the first scene the victim reported that three armed suspects attacked him and tied him up. He was apparently badly injured and had to be taken to hospital after the incident was discovered. The robbers broke through one of the doors and stole money from a safe as well as other stock such as cigarettes. The Witbank SAPS attended the crime scene and is investigating a case of armed robbery in conjunction with the second incident.
Two security guards were on duty at the second location and the armed robbers caught them off guard and tied them up before breaking into the premises and escaping with undisclosed valuables as well. Apparently there were about five robbers in total.

The SAPS are consistently trying to have visual policing patrolling the CBD and regular operations are conducted where drug arrests are made among other violations. They warn pedestrians to always travel in groups to reduce the risk of being targeted and business owners to not remain open after hours as this can also increase the likelihood of being targeted by robbers.
