Courage takes you places

16 is a good age to start thinking about your career, and Beverly Twala is very passionate about hers.

On Wednesday, March 23, het dream and her passion became a reality when she received a sewing machine as well as a basket filled with goodies.

“I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe I can finally start working on my dream,” she said, teary eyed.

“This young girl was brave enough to send us an email, requesting our help in starting her career. We discussed it with Bernina and they agreed to sponsor a sewing machine to this aspiring young fashion designer. We believe that she will make a success of her career and that she will be a famous fashion designer,” said Ms Magda Lubcker.

“We always thought that she would grow up to be a doctor or a lawyer, as she is very smart, but when she told us that she wants to be a fashion designer, we couldn’t believe it. We all thought this was just a phase, but she is so passionate about it and has her own book with drawings,” said her sister, Nomhle Twala.

As a learner of Hoër Tegniese Skool, she said that she grew to love fashion designing.

“It was just somehing that I started liking and I want to make it my career now. My parents never really believed me when I said that I want to be a fashion designer, but I want to show them that I can make a success of this. I also want to study fashion designing when I finish my school career. Hopefully I can get enough money saved up to do this,” Beverly said.

Bernina sponsored a sewing machine to Beverly, after her email. They will also offer their support as well as classes to get to know her new machine. She is also going to attend private sewing classes and classes to get to know her new sewing machine better.

“We hope that you will go far and that this stepping stone will help you in the right direction to make your dreams come true,” Linda Venter concluded.
