Back yard off limits due to the flowing sewage

Being unable to open their windows due to the stench is one of the problems residents of Pine Ridge are experiencing.

Being unable to open their windows due to the stench is one of the problems residents of Pine Ridge are experiencing.

A man’s house located at Sunflower Street has sewage that has been flowing from his yard to other houses for two months.

The dirty water is flowing from the washing line and can be seen in their backyard next to a window which left them unable to open the windows due to the stench.

“This has affected our lives a lot as various things cannot be done such as letting the dogs out. My main concern is the health aspect of this situation; this is a health hazard as it has been going on for some time now. All these problems have led to our backyards being a complete write off,” said the man.

The occupants of the house say they are unable to use the back yard due to the sewage at their house located at Sunflower Street at Pine Ridge.

Public Representative Councillor for the Democratic Alliance (Ward 12) Cllr Muhammed Jallal said the residents have reported the matter to him and he has tried numerous times to contact the municipality.

“We are well aware of this issue and have been trying to get help but no one has come back to us. There is another house at Gazania Street that has the same problem but that too has not been resolved. I have been sending the municipal manager countless messages this whole month and he has not replied to one of them,” concluded Cllr Jallal.

The municipality did not reply by the time of going to press.
