This past week various robberies with different circumstances occurred in eMalahleni.

The first of these robberies took place on Sunday, March 13 when a man was robbed by two suspects after heading home from church. The robbers took his cell phone and driver’s license among other valuables worth R2100.

Another incident occurred on the same day at about 14:30 when two young men where walking in the CBD area when three unknown robbers followed them. One of the suspects then came up to the victims and held them at gunpoint. The robbers demanded the young victim’s backpack that contained the victim’s laptop and cell phone. He reluctantly handed it over and the suspects drove off.

The third robbery happened on Wednesday, March 16 at about 19:00. A man was robbed in Coronation of his cell phone when an unknown man approached the victim on his way home. The robber then insisted on all the victim’s belongings. When the victim then refused the suspect threatened him with a firearm after firing two shots into the ground. He then gave over all his belongings and the suspect fled.

With all these robberies going around eMalahleni the SAPS and CPF members had their hands full by collecting suspects left, right and centre when they got a call of a concerned resident about a robbery taking place at his neighbour’s house.

On the SAPS arrival they were informed that the burglars was still in the yard when a police officer and CPF member saw two unknown men jumping over the wall. They chased the suspects, caught them and arrested them on the scene.
Some cases where the suspects were not caught is still being investigated by the police.
