Mentally challenged woman allegedly raped

Captain Maloka said they received a report that a 33-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly rape. The mother of the victim said she had sent her daughter to a nearby shop to buy cold drink before going to a church service on Saturday, March 12 at about 12:30.

She became concerned after her daughter was away for more than 30 minutes while she usual takes about 15 minutes to and from the shop. The family went out looking for her and even went to another shop, but they were told that she did not arrive at that shop.

They then parked the car and waited for some minutes and then they saw her walking in front of an unknown man giving direction on which route to take. When her sister approached them, the man ran away when he saw her and they could not catch him.

Information gathered by the police is that she was allegedly led away by the suspect into the bushes far away from the resident’s houses in Lynnville near the N4 Highway.
The family further revealed that they found some items in the spot which is believed to be used by the suspect to conduct his solicit acts. The family is now concerned about her safety.

No arrest has been made and police are investigating a case of rape.
