Vosman Police Station has reported that they have noticed an increase in the number of fraud reported cases.

Vosman Police Station communication officer Captain Klaas Maloka pointed out that a 42 year-old man, Jack Thokoane of Hlalanikahle Extension 1 reported to them that he was in his car with the intention to withdraw money from an ATM but could not, as he could not find his bank card. Since January 23 he has been looking for his card. He has searched for it, in his house, car and everywhere but could not find it.

Recently Mr Thokoane decided to report the matter at his bank. When checking the statement at the bank it showed that an amount of R7 225 has been withdrawn from his account. He tried to find out, but the bank advised him to report the matter to the police. He did not receive any notification about withdrawals from his account.

The station commander of Vosman Police Station, Brigadier Makhosazana Kheswa through Captain Maloka has raised her concern on the rise of reported fraud cases. It was reported that this was the sixth case reported in the last two weeks and an amount of more than R100 000 was involved.

“We are engaging the Commercial Crime Unit to educate the public about preventing fraud. We have as well indentified hot spots and one of them is KG Mall. We hope to hold an awareness campaign on March 18 to educate the public through talks and awareness campaigns. We will distribute information through pamphlets and other means that will bring something quick in the minds of our community in preventing fraud cases,” explained Captain Maloka.
