Academic achievers awards ceremony held

The awards were held on Friday, January 15 at one of the best built schools in the province.

In his welcoming address Cllr Derrick Skosana thanked the Mpumalanga department of Education for choosing Makause Combined to host the academic achievers awards. Cllr Skosana was representing the eMalahleni executive mayor during the awards held recently.

Imanuel Mokone (18) a pupil of Bonginsimbi Comprehensive School receiving his certificate and award, he scored five distinctions in the Grade 12 results.

The awards were held on Friday, January 15 at one of the best built schools in the province. He further thanked all the role players and the partnership government has with the private sector.
District Director Mr J.J. Mabena in his address relates a story of a wedding in his apology for coming late. He further said even though there were a lot of challenges the learners worked very hard to pave a better future for themselves. He further thanked the principals for their support and commitment in making sure that the province achieves better results. He also stated that the teachers have shown great commitment and discipline in teaching the children hence the improved results.

“We need to leave a legacy in the district this year by means of excellent success. We need to open the doors of learning and improve on quality education. Results must start from Grade R and the teachers need to have the necessary skills to be successful.” emphasised Mr Mabena.

He further spoke about the boarding schools to cater for pupils from the farms schools that will be closed down. Mr Mabena also spoke about the second chance matric programme for pupils initiated by the national minister to benefit all those who could not make it in matric since 2013.


The province top achiever Sumaiya Jeewa receiving her award. She was also presented with a brand new car for her outstanding matric results.

He later presented the overall results in the districts and the improvements obtained since 2011.
