Road block operation on N4 arrests 52 alleged drunk drivers

Hundreds of law enforcement officers were involved in the operation on the N4 on December 19.

Drunk driving is a huge contributor to the road collision statistics especially over the festive season when people are celebrating or travelling long distances on holiday. The Traffic Department rallied dozens of officers and partnered with the SAPS to set up road blocks across Mpumalanga.

On December 20 as the sun set the roadblock on the N4 and other key areas in eMalahleni were set up to check for outstanding fines, and drunk driving among other things.

Many people were arrested for drunk driving in the 12 hour period.

In eMalahleni alone they arrested over 52 suspects for alleged drunk driving. The officers were busy during the 12 hour period to make the roads safer leading up to Christmas on December 25.
