A shack was demolished by members of Empumelelweni after the owner was suspected of raping a six year old girl.
The community were up in arms after they destroyed the shack. The suspect who is believed to be about 30 years old was said to have first kidnapped the girl on Thursday, December 17 at about 18:00 and the girl only came back home after about 22: 00.

According to the father of the victim they were worried when the girl did not come home at night. They then started searching for her in the area. At about 22:00 the girl came back and went to a neighbour’s house. The neighbour took the child to her home and when questioned she told them that she was taken by an unknown man. The mothers accompanied the girl to show her where she was. The suspect slightly opened the window to see who was knocking.
After seeing the victim he closed the window and locked himself.
The father went to the house only to find the suspect with his uncle and the suspect had a knife and he allegedly stabbed the father. He had to be taken to hospital for his stab wound at the back.
Meanwhile the girl was taken to hospital where it was confirmed that she has been raped. The family had opened a rape case at the Vosman Police Station.

The community are angry as they said this is the third incidence of this kind.
The community then decided to demolish the suspect’s shack. Cllr Timothy Lukhele said they have on several occasion reported such cases at the municipality without any positive response.
The uncle who stays a few meters away from the suspect’s shack was arrested on Friday morning. The suspect who is believed to be from Lesotho has not been arrested. The community is concerned as he was not arrested and might escape to his country. The community hope that the police will arrest him.
The uncle was released on bail after appearing in court. The police are investigation cases of kidnap, rape and assault to cause grievously bodily harm.
