Water conscience pensioner gets a shock in the mail

A pensioner living alone in Del Judor got a shock when he opened his municipal bill this month

A pensioner living alone in Del Judor got a shock when he opened his municipal bill this month as it said he had used over 50 times more water than he normally does. With the recent national droughts on everyone’s mind Mr Phillip Godden prides himself on his water conscience lifestyle using no more than 1 kilolitre of water a month and often even less than that.

Three months of municipal bills from Phillip Godden with the bottom one being significantly higher than usual.

With years of municipal accounts proving this he was surprised to find a bill saying that a man living on his own who is out of the house most of the day has used over 50 kilolitres last month which is enough water to fill a small swimming pool.

“I went to speak to the municipality but no one would listen they say it is impossible for someone to use such little water,” said Mr Godden.

According to him his meter is functioning correctly and the amount of the account is certainly not reflected on his meter.

Lebo Mofokeng the municipal spokesperson was asked to comment on this situation as Mr Godden is certainly not the only victim of municipal misadministration that the WITBANK NEWS has reported on. However no comment has yet been received.
