Robber points out flaws in security

Police are asking residents to be more alert as house robberies are on the increase.

Police are asking residents to be more alert as house robberies are on the increase.

In one of the three house robberies a domestic was shot.
Ms Mmatshepang was shot in her chest during the robbery which happened on Friday, November 11 in Tasbet Park.
According to the police report the owner of the house, Mr PF Makama said his wife who is in hospital, received a call from a neighbour who told her about the robbery.
The neighbours said a blue bakkie was seen in the yard and when they heard the shot they knew something was terribly wrong.

They found the wounded Mmatshepang in a pool of blood in the main bedroom.
She was rushed to Emalahleni Private Hospital. By the time going to press the information was that she was in the intensive care unit.

The robbers stole the spare keys of the four vehicles, a safe with cash in and 50 bullets.
Later on at about 20:00 another house robbery took place, this time in Reyno Ridge.
The victim, who asked to be kept anonymous, said she had an early evening. A noise of something being pulled woke her up at around 22:45.

“Although I was horrified I was calm at the same time,” she said.

In the lounge she saw an unknown man who asked her for her cell phone. He ordered her to go and fetch it and told her to go back to her room where she stayed until she was convinced he left.

“My biggest fear was that I would be raped. I wanted him to take everything in the house as long as he left me alone,” she whispered.

The robber, who she said was armed with a huge screwdriver, stole a plasma television, a Sony amplifier and her Samsung Galaxy cell phone.

It is the third house robbery that will make you smile involuntarily.
The robber in this house robbery pointed out to the home owners where they should step up in their security around their home.

“This was the strangest situation I have ever been in,” said Ms Monia Nyangara.

She and her husband were fast asleep when a robber managed to break into their home in Extension 8.
The robber came in through the window in their spare bedroom.

“I woke up when the wind forced my door closed, it felt as if someone was actually closing the door, but I told myself it was the wind,” Nyangara said.

But as she closed the door, a robber kicked it open. Nyangara hid under a chair and her husband, still bewildered with the sudden commotion scrambled to her side.
Nyangara said the robber told her husband to get back on the bed.

He then demanded money and asked if there were any guns in the house.

“The robber then fired a shot that lodged in our mattress just to show us his gun was real and he was not playing games. He said he was going to take me ransom and demand R20 000 for me.”

The robber then told the frightened couple he does not want to steal their vehicles and said he will use the vehicle and leave it at a safe drop-off point for them. He also pointed out where the couple should add more security around their house.

“We suggested he leaves it in the central business area and he said no there are too many thieves. My husband then said what about Costa’s and again he said no they will break into the vehicle at Costa’s,” Nyangara said.

The robber then locked Nyangara’s husband in the bedroom and told her to drop him off at a nearby garage. Nyangara said once in the car it seemed as if the robber changed his mind.

“After I opened the gate for him, we got out of the car again. In the house he said I must take my clothes off. I decided there and then I was not going to be raped and I refused.”

The robber then said he is going to take their car and in the same breath he said she should not worry as he would bring the car back.
The couple’s car was later traced and recovered by Tracker. The robber left all Nyangara’s husband’s documents which were amongst his loot, in the car. He left with a cell phone and a laptop.

“This was a drama. The robber tried to convince us that he was not that bad,” Nyangara said.
