Happy Gogo Sinah Peterson having a bite of her birthday cake

An elderly woman is living under very poor conditions in an old hostel just past Pine Ridge.
Gogo Sinah Peterson will be 70 years in August, she says she was born on August 1 in 1945 and she says she is originally from Western Cape. She is presently working as a domestic worker at Pine Ridge.

Attempts to find an identity document for her have failed and according to one of the community leaders it is because of the backlog in the department of home affairs in Middelburg where she made her application in 2011. Apparently she has one child back in the Cape. She is now staying in an old abandoned hostel of what used to be a hostel for workers in a wood factory. Apart from the challenges of not having an identity document, she needs a shelter and does not have a birth certificate.

A few individuals came together to put a smile on her face during the 67 minutes for Mandela and brought her a birthday cake, tin food, fruits, grocery, drinks, clothes and a blanket. The goods were donated by Dr I. Malope, Dr K. Molotothe and was organised by Mr Doctor Mthimunye, Ms Pinky Mokwena, Ms Miriam Molefe.
