SAPS issues warning about car hi-jacking

Vosman Police Station has issued a warning to motorists traveling on the Balmoral Road about the prevalence of car hi-jacking on the Balmoral Road.

Vosman Police Station communicating officer, Captain Klaas Maloka, indicated that in the past four months they have received five reports of car hi-jackings on this road.

He said recently on Friday, July 10 a motorist, Mr Joseph Mello who was driving a Toyota Hilux bakkie was approached by two unknown men. Mello reported that he stopped next to the road trying to help another motorist that seemed to have lost control of his vehicle. This person was previously driving in front of him. The vehicle driving behind him also stopped, two men came towards him. They ordered him to sit in the rear of the vehicle and they drove away, he was instructed to look down. They stopped and looked at a vehicle behind them, which was a white
Audi A4 and then they drove to the township. He was kept in the car for about two hours by the suspects. They then left and went to the nearby bushes where he was dropped off and was given back his sim card and a R100.

Captain Maloka said under no circumstances should drivers stop on the road as it is dangerous to do so.
No one has been arrested and police are investigating a case of car hi-jacking.
