Bomb scares at Saveways and Highveld Mall

Two shopping centres were evacuated due to a bomb scare on Monday.

On June 15 at around 12:45 a bomb threat was received at ABSA Bank in Highveld Mall.
The caller is unknown and the Mall was evacuated from Edgars to the food court. They had a brief evacuation of approximately an hour.

After the Witbank SAPS Dog Unit and the bomb squad gave them the go-ahead and everything was clear.
An assembly point of nominated stores is in place for any type of evacuations and there are certain assembly points for certain stores.
According to Cst Cornie De Lange from the SAPS, another threat was received at ABSA Bank in Saveways Crescent on the same day. After the bomb squad and dog unit gave the go-ahead at Highveld Mall, they went to Saveways Crescent but nothing was found there either.

The call was not long after Highveld Mall received the threat. As soon as the dog unit and bomb squad cleared the bank, the shopping centre opened again for trading.
