Flood in Dulcimer Street

A burst pipe can cause damage, but in Dulcimer Street, this is becoming a real problem.

On Friday, May 8 a burst pipe in Bassoon Street caused a big part of Dulcimer Street to flood. Mr Arthur Cooks, resident of Dulcimer Street says that this is a regular problem with pipe bursts or when it rains a lot.
Dulcimer Street is at the end of a downhill from Bassoon Street. This causes the water from Bassoon Street to gather and build up, until it runs into the driveways of residents.

Cooks says that when there is a lot of rain or a burst pipe, the water sometimes reaches ankle height and residents struggle to get in and out of driveways.
The reason for these floods is that the drains which the water is supposed to run into, are blocked and therefore the water is gathering on the road.

This makes driving in and out of the driveways, a big problem especially for small and low cars.
The water was switched off after phone calls to the municipality, notifying them of the problem.
According to Emalahleni Municipal workers, the reservoir ran empty and because of no power, it stayed empty and residents were without water until approximately 21:00 on Sunday, May 10.

Emalahleni municipality has been busy repairing the problem.
