Operation Shout Aloud, Memeza and Goelela

Elukhanyisweni High School recently experienced a number of social problems which reflected on the pupils.

It came to the attention of the support group to intervene in a number of times. The support group found factors that were behind the problems, they found out that the problems were social, economic, religious and many other dominating issues.

An awareness campaign was then held to help pupils know about the different stakeholders within the community. Different stakeholders offered their services to help the pupils.
SAPS, Department of Health, Victim Support, Mthimkhulu Home Based Care, local government, media houses, WITBANK NEWS and Emalahleni FM attended the event.

One of the pupils, Kagisho Tshehla, related a story about abuse to encourage the pupils to speak out. She said a young girl was staying with her mother and uncle.
The mother left one day to search for work and left her in the care of her uncle, It soon turned out that she was abused by her uncle and kept silent.
The girl was a bright student and teachers loved her commitment towards her studies. After a period, the teachers noticed that the girl’s grade lowered and performance was getting poor.

They soon called her parents, mother and uncle attended. During the meeting, the girl stated that she was being sexually abused by her uncle.
The police and social workers were called and the uncle was arrested.

All the representatives offered their services and encouraged pupils to call their offices if the need any help.
