Still no progress on pothole situation

Seven days became six weeks and still nothing has been done about the craters decorating eMalahleni’s roads.

AfriForum’s local branch gave Emalahleni Local Municipality seven days from March 24 to fix several potholes, identified by them. If that was not done AfriForum was going to take matters in their own hands, fix the potholes and bill the municipality.

AfriForum identified Fanie, Birkholtz, Steve Bantu Biko and Pienaar streets as roads that needed urgent filling as these streets surround schools.
This project, they said, would cost about R82 000.
Mr Tiaan Esterhuizen, AfriForum’s manager of Community Structures however said no potholes had been fixed yet because they were told the municipality put out a tender to fix potholes.

He said AfriForum would put a lot of extra pressure on the municipality to come to the table.
Esterhuizen said they have a report on the conditions of roads in the municipality, but he failed to share the report with WITBANK NEWS.

Mr Theo van Vuuren, the municipality’s acting municipal manager said a tender was advertised for the repair of 20 000m². He said the work is executed according to a prioritised programme and within budget availability.
