Body recovered from burnt-out wreck

The charred remains of what was once a body were removed from a vehicle after it caught fire on the N4 highway last week.

Bystanders next to the highway watched in horror on Thursday night, April 16 as emergency services struggled to douse the raging fires that had spread through what was once a BMW.

Witnesses and residents near the highway said they had heard a loud crash of metal against metal before they rushed out to see the burning vehicle.
It seems the BMW had been travelling towards Middleburg when it hit the back of a truck travelling in the same direction.
After the heavy impact, the BMW had swerved off the road and onto the median where it caught alight.

According to paramedics and witnesses on scene there were two people inside the vehicle, but after the fire was put out only one body was found and removed from the vehicle.

DNA tests were done on the body, that appears to be male, but so far no positive confirmation was made to identify the person.
