Banking and Cash in Transit Crime Stakeholders tackle crime together

A Banking and Cash in Transit Crime Stakeholder Engagement was held recently at the city hall.

The aim of the engagement was to bring together all the stakeholders to try and come up with a solution to the problem of banking and cash in transit problem faced by eMalahleni.
It was indicated during the meeting that eMalahleni is the capital of banking and cash in transit crime.

Executive mayor of Emalahleni, Cllr Salome Sithole, said eMalahleni was the energy hub between two important access and exit routes, N4 to Pretoria and the N12 to Johannesburg. She said the city was a mining city with a fast growing population and was attracting all kinds of people.
She stated there were a lot of challenges faced by the city but with partnerships something can be done to face them.
Provincial commissioner Lt General (Adv) M.D. Magadlela said the heist group was a very well organised syndicate and there is a lot of cash involved, even though in some instances the crime can be investigated better and follow ups done.

“We need to up our game, we can do much better. We need to share information, we need to improve our security measures, we need to do what we have to do. The safety of people reflect on the country. If we focus on the present that will inform our future, we need to understand our past and plan for the future. We need to plan for a bright future and find solutions. We need to do an introspection, maybe our enemies have knowledge about banking and we need to find out how they acquire that knowledge. We need to locate the hot spots and develop strategies, we need to win the war against criminals. Criminals must resign or face the mighty of the law. ”
Lt General Magadlela called on all stakeholders to come together to deliver service to the people of the country.
Hotspot analysis was presented by deputy national commissioner of policing Lt General K.J Sithole and Division of Visible Policing and Community Services Brigadier R. van Staden.

Station commander of Witbank Police Station Brigadier Sifiso Cele and Vosman Police Station commander Brigadier Makhosazana Kheswa presented intervention plans.
Messages of support were received from Business against Crime, Local Security Forum, Chief Magistrate, Senior Prosecutor, Provincial Chairperson of Community Police Board and the District mayor of Nkangala.

The way forward was presented by acting divisional commissioner, Visible Policing, Major General M.M. Motihlala and the South Africa Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) was represented by Adv K Pillay.
