Safety is a concern in Opperman Street

Many reports have come to the attention of WITBANK NEWS regarding burst water pipes, but just as common are reports of holes not being filled properly when the municipality is done with work.

That causes a serious hazard for children or pedestrians.
On April 10 in Opperman Street a water pipe burst and needed to be repaired.
When municipal contractors were on the scene to repair the hole, people noticed something else that raised concerns.
They did not have any clearly marked signs indicating work is being done next to the road.

The sand and water was being dumped at the side of the pavement, halfway in the road.
They did not have road cones to indicate to motorists that debris is being piled up, blocking one of the lanes.
The supervisor told the journalist on the scene that traffic cones would be put up shortly, as they had just started working. This did not happen.

On Tuesday, April 14 Mduduzi Zulu, communications officer for Emalahleni Municipality, said the problem has been noted and safety procedures will be immediately put in place on the site.
