Head-on collision on N12 highway claims two lives

A head-on collision occurred in the early ours of the morning, killing two people, while a third vehicle collided with the displaced engine caused by the initial collision.

On Sunday at about 00:22 paramedics and police rushed out the accident scene on the N12 highway. They apparently found three vehicles. A red Mini Cooper, that seemed to be travelling in the direction of oncoming traffic, had collided with a silver Polo carrying three people. The Cooper rolled from the impact of the collision.

The driver of the third vehicle, a red Mercedes Benz, crashed into the engine of the Mini Cooper that was lying in the dark road several meters away from the other vehicles. The driver of the Mercedes was unharmed.
Mr Alex Grobler from Triple S towing described the scene.

He said the silver Polo crashed against the barrier on the side of the road. The Mini Cooper was lying in the grass just next to the road, in the island between the two highways, while the Mercedes was stationary in the middle of the road next to the loose engine.
It is unknown what caused Mr Henry Mgwenja, the driver of the Mini Cooper, to lose control and swerve into oncoming traffic. Both drivers were trapped in the vehicle and emergency services freed them with the Jaws of Life. However both victims were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Mr Ben Moshwane, Henry’s brother-in-law, said that he was hard working and a good man. He has been a resident of Emalahleni for about 13 years and his funeral will be held on Saturday.
Tshepo Magolego, the driver of the Polo, was identified on Tuesday by his next of kin and was 30-years-old when he died.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened with Witbank SAPS.

According to Capt Eddie Hall from Witbank SAPS this is standard procedure and an inquest has been opened to determine the exact cause of death.
