Evacuation process in place for emergencies

The bomb threat article in last week’s issue of WITBANK NEWS led to many talking points, especially on the topic of evacuation.

It has been established that Saveways Crescent Shopping Centre does have a proper evacuation programme in place. The guards on duty play an important role in this process and tenants of shops are notified within minutes.

The Centre Management of Saveways Crescent is fully aware of what happens inside the shopping centre even if they are absent. It is their goal to maintain a safe working environment for all the owners of the different shops and customers who visit the shopping centre.
The police do their best to send their bomb squad in and make sure the threatened place is safe and secure, as soon as possible. After that, the message is sent out and under normal circumstances shops open again for business soon after.
Efficient communication is necessary in such a situation therefore all security guards have walkie-talkies in their possession and can communicate a clear message.

Marshals should also be on duty to make sure that onlookers or shop tenants stay as far away as possible. Danger tape is normally visible to make sure no one comes close to the endangered area.

So rest assured that when threats are received, police are following procedures and doing their best to secure the situation as soon as possible.
