Suspected ‘thief’ murdered

A man passed away in hospital last week due to serious injuries after an alleged mob justice incident.

An unidentified man was brought to Witbank Hospital on Sunday, March 22 with several lacerations and serious head injuries.

The man was allegedly found in Klarinet by emergency services and taken to hospital for immediate attention. He passed away on Wednesday, March 25.
A case of murder is being investigated after it was alleged that the man had been assaulted by a group of men who accused him of theft.
The group of suspects is unknown and no arrests have been made.

Police warned the community again not to take the law into their own hands.
As previously stated by spokesperson for Witbank Police Station, Capt Eddie Hall, a member of the community is allowed to detain a suspect caught in the act of a crime, but must then hand the suspect over to authorities for prosecution.
