Three struck by lightning

Lightning in eMalahleni struck three people in the last week, killing two and leaving one injured.

On Thursday, March 19 two people were struck by lightning on opposite sides of eMalahleni.
A 14-year-old girl, who lives in Klarinet, was struck by lightning while walking in the streets in the afternoon.
She was taken to Witbank Provincial Hospital where she received treatment for burns to her arm and for shock.

At 19:30 on the old Bethal Road Mr Sibusiso Siko (23) and his friend walked to the nearby shop. When they started making their way back home it started to rain.
Both men started to run for shelter when the lightning struck Siko.
Siko was declared dead on scene. Witbank Police were called to the scene and an inquest has been opened.

Earlier that week on March 17 lightning struck Francois Clarence from Hoër Tegniese Skool on the A rugby field. Emergency services responded to the call immediately and Francois was taken to Life Cosmos Hospital where he later died.
