Ms Sithole said that on Human Rights Day, DA is proud to announce that the staff and patients of Ogies Clinic in eMalahleni can finally visit the clinic in a dignified manner.
“Due to sustained pressure from the DA, the provincial health department has installed new water pipes and fixed the toilets. The lack of decent sanitation facilities at the clinic resulted in an unbearable stench for sick patients awaiting treatment. The health department has also appointed someone to cut the long grass around the clinic and maintain its grounds. This will undoubtedly make the clinic safer for all its users. While we are proud of what we have achieved for the Ogies community, our work is far from over as this clinic, which services the whole of Ogies and the nearby farms of Phola, only has one nurse who sees all the patients and is also expected to do the cleaning and capturing of data,” said Ms Sithole.
She further stated that they would continue to engage the Health Department until the clinic is fully repaired and equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and staff compliment to make it safe for the community it serves.
