On Tuesday, March 17 at approximately 14:40 Francois Clarence, a Grade 11 learner walked off of the hockey field with the rest of his team before the match against Potchefstroom started due to bad weather.
Just before Francois reached the top of the A rugby field a bolt of lightning struck and hit him, sending him to the ground.

Footage of school children, parents and people of the community joined hands at the Life Cosmos Hospital to pray for Francois’ recovery.

Francois Clarence (17) a learner and first team hockey player from Hoër Tegniese Skool (HTS) died after being struck by lightning.
On Tuesday evening, March 17 at approximately 22:15 Francois died in Life Cosmos Hospital in ICU.
Francois will be dearly missed by all who knew him, may his soul rest in peace.
