Burnt while vandalising substation

Emalahleni City Council has an on going problem with cable theft and people vandalising substations, a person was recently burnt doing this.

On March 4 there was a power outage which affected Ben Fleur, Reyno Ridge, Tasbet Park, Extension 16, the area around Pop n Daisy, Bankenveld Estate and Duvha Extensions.

After investigation from the municipality it was discovered that the bulk supply cable to these areas was damaged due to attempted cable theft across the N4 highway.
It took the team longer to fix the problem, than expected.
The previous week the council received information that a person was badly burnt whilst vandalising a substation. He managed to run away, but his family later took him to hospital where the police picked him up.

A woman was electrocuted in her home on March 5, in KwaGuqa Extension 10.
The police were on scene, as was the investigation team from the council. It was determined that it was an illegal connection as the cables in use were not of the type used by the municipality.
