Sewage, not in my yard

A blocked sewage main not only poses as a hassle but also a health risk.

A resident living in Hertzog Street took it on himself to reroute the sewage from a blocked drain in their yard into the streets.

According to one of the neighbours, the home owner dug trenches from where the blockage was towards the street. The home owner then laid down plastic PVC piping and rerouted the sewage from the blocked drain towards the street.

Now the raw sewage flows into the street creating a stench for motorists that use the road as well as for neighbours, not to mention that should it rain, the sewage will then be spread even further, possibly into the yards of the neighbours.

According to Mr Bertus Fourie, this issue has been ongoing for at least four weeks, without any intervention from the municipality.
Emalahleni Municipality will be sending a team out to investigate the matter, as it is illegal to reroute the sewage into the street.
