“We have been investigating the matter as a department and concluded that the action of the officer was unethical. We have also discovered through a closer look at the uniform including the insignia; that he is not working for the department, but a municipality,” said Mr Joseph Mabuza, Director Communication Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga.
Mabuza said the video will be sent to Steve Tshwete Municipality to see whether they can identify the traffic officer.
In the video a traffic officer is seen and heard asking for cold drinks after he pulled off a motorcyclist who was on his way to the Crocodile Rally that was held between Loskop Dam and Groblersdal on February 6.
The motorcyclist said the traffic officer nodded in the direction of his wallet and he handed the very thirsty traffic officer R100.
But the real laugh comes when the traffic officer then gallantly opens the motorcyclist’s gloves and helps him to put it on again.
