Police recover 22 tyres valued at R60 000 each

Through investigation police were able to recover 22 stolen Light Truck Bias tyres.

On January 22 WO Patrick Malepe was on standby when he received a complaint that there had been a business robbery. He headed out to Trentyre Broadway in Witbank Central Business District.

On his arrival he spoke to the two guards on duty and opened the investigation, he called in the Trio Task Team who attended the scene.
“Through investigation we found that one of the guards on duty was tied to the robbery and that another guard, who was not on duty at the time was also linked to the robbery,” said WO Malepe.

They later received information that the tyres were being sold in Benoni and Brakpan and headed out to the respective businesses, where they recovered the 22 tyres valued at R60 000 each. Police arrested the two retailers for receiving stolen tyres.
Through the continued investigation, the police were able to arrest the driver of the truck that transported the tyres from eMalahleni to Gauteng where they were supposed to be sold.

The two guards, truck driver and retailers are currently in custody.
