Video: Racial remarks lead to riot

Learners from Hoërskool ReynoPark stood outside rioting as teachers, principal and a parent sat down in a meeting early on Monday morning.

On February 16 the chanting of “No more Mr Ras, Ms Ras and McKenzie” was heard outside the school grounds by anger parents and learners.
It all allegedly started on Thursday, February 12 when one of the teachers called a girl a baboon in class.

A case was opened at Witbank Police Station about that incident and when the girl’s mother contacted the grade 9 teacher, she was called a baboon by the teacher.
Learners from the school want Mr Ras the principal of the school to go as he has also allegedly called them names, so has other teachers.

The school spokesperson was contacted for comment about the situation.
“We are busy in a meeting with the Educational Department and we have no comment at the moment,” said the spokesperson.
