Robber caught by neighbour

A family of seven was robbed at their home in Ga-Nala last week.

It is alleged two armed men stormed into their home and held them hostage, while they tied up all the victim’s hands and feet with electrical cords on Thursday, February 5.

One of the robbers ransacked the house while the other was on guard. The victim’s son, who is staying in an outside room, came into the main house followed by his dog.

The son wrestled with one robber, while his father managed to untie himself.
A neighbour, who asked to be kept anonymous, said he heard a commotion coming from one of his neighbour’s houses and ran to help.
“I saw the father wrestling with a robber outside their house. The suspect tried to make a run for it. I tackled the robber and held him until the police arrived,” the man explained how the drama unfolded.

The police arrested the suspect and found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect is charged with house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The other suspect is still at large.

Police request community assistance in arresting the outstanding suspect.
“We also make use of the Zello app and I salute all the people from Witbank 911 and Ga-Nala group who came on air and worked as one team,” the hero of the day said.
