Elevator death

The accident that caused a woman to fall to her death down an elevator shaft is being investigated.

The incident occurred on Thursday, February 5 when a power outage caused an elevator to get stuck at the Sanlam Building in the Central Business District.

The rescue took a turn for the worst when the victim Ms Brenda Mongwane fell down the elevator shaft.
The fire and rescue personnel and pathology services took almost an hour to extricate the body from the pit at the bottom of the elevator shaft.
Once the Pathology Unit was done with the investigation of the accident scene, they began the task of removing the body. Witbank 911 assisted in this task.

The victim has a sister whom she lived with as well as a baby. She will be remembered as a loving and kind person by those who knew her.
