Video: Five appear in court for Mthembu’s shooting

Five men who believed to be connected to the shooting of the African National Congress MP Jackson Mthembu, have appeared in Witbank Magistrates Court.

ANC supporters gathered outside the court on Thursday, January 29, chanting songs of support for Mthembu.
The five men who appeared in B- Court, the case was postponed until the end of February for further investigation and they will remain in police custody.

Mthembu was shot while withdrawing money from an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) in Mandela Street on October 19.
He was approached by an armed man along with several others. They demanded that he withdraw all of his money from his account.

Mthembu was shot. The bullet grazed his cheek and hit him in the shoulder. He was hospitalised for 10 days and was booked off work until the end of November.

“The law must take it course, so a stop can be put to these types of crimes,” said Mthembu in court.
