Video: road to Jackaroo finally fixed!

After a whole year making use of the dilapidated road at the entrance to Jackaroo Park, residents are overjoyed to see the road finally fixed.

On Tuesday, January 27 road users were pleased to see a newly tarred road at the turnoff to Jackaroo Park. Residents, who complained about the state of the gravel road that had continued to deteriorate for months after a building project was ceased in 2013 (due to a lack of funds), were happy to see the new repairs made.

Since the beginning of last year Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward Councillors took on the task of getting the municipality and South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) on board with the repairs on the road. As the road was utilised as an alternative route for heavy vehicles, but also fell under the municipality’s jurisdiction, it created an issue of who was responsible for repairs.

Contractors were hired to fix the road, but no dramatic improvement was ever witnessed until now.
“Last week we finally found out who the contractors were that were hired to continue repairs, and we contacted them directly,” said DA Councillor Roy Cronjé.
“I told them about a petition I had drawn up for all the residents to sign unless they fix the road,” Cronjé continued.
DA councillors had planned a meeting to get all Jackaroo Park residents on board with the petition to speed up repairs.
“Thanks to sponsorships the contractors received recently, they could now start with the repairs,” Cronjé added, happy to report that the petition would hopefully no longer be needed.

After.
