Girl (11) killed by taxi

The Mahlangu family lost one of their daughters, Princess Busisiwe Mahlangu, who was hit by a taxi.

According to the family, 11-year-old Busisiwe was on her way to the petrol station to buy a newspaper for a school project with her elder brother Lebo (12).

The accident happened on Sunday, January 18 between 17:15 and 18:00 at the Mathew Phosa Street a few metres after the robots in Extension 5.

She was a Grade 4 pupil at Siphedulwe Primary School.
“She was a very kind child, who always had a smile on her face and shared her jokes with everybody. We will surely miss her a lot,” said a family spokesperson.

In October last year, two young children were hit by cars in two separate accidents.
These accidents involving children concerned Vosman police, who warned parents to be extra careful with their little ones.
Five-year-old Karabo Motaung was hit by a car in George Bizos Street, Vosman on Wednesday, October 22 at about 16:00. According to the driver of the Nissan Skyline his car was being push-started by a group of boys and he did not see the child when the car gained momentum.
In another accident, a car in Extension 18 hit a four-year-old child on Saturday, October 25 at about 13:45. Six children were running in the main road and the car came in their direction.

It is said the driver of the car tried to brake the car but failed, as the child slipped and fell underneath the car.
Captain Klaas Maloka, Vosman Police Station Communication Officer then warned parents to be extra careful when sending their children to school and collecting them. He said parents must ensure that children are sent and collected by older children or parents.
