Driver abandoned in field

A truck driver was tied up and abandoned in a field after being hijacked along the N12.

The hijacking took place on January 9 at about 11:00.

The driver was travelling along the highway towards Midrand, when a black Volkswagen Polo hatchback drove past it and started indicating that he should pull over.

The driver pulled over to the side of the road. One of the passengers in the Polo climbed out of the vehicle and approached the truck. He drew a firearm and told the driver of the truck to move over to the passenger side.

The suspect then bound the driver’s hands and drove off, abandoning the driver in an open field.

The Mercedes truck with registration BY 05 TS GP is valued at R200 000. It has not yet been retrieved and no arrests have been made.
The driver of the truck was unable to comment due to company policy.
