Robbers loot home leaving domestic in tears

A domestic worker was threatened at gunpoint to stay put and keep quiet as robbers looted the home.

The house robbery took place on November 20 in Die Heuwel.
“It was about 11:00. I left the house to go to the laundry to finish washing the curtains. When I started ironing I heard a noise from the house. I thought it was the madam,” said Ms Rose Mokwena, the domestic worker.

Mokwena went back to the house and entered the kitchen, she saw that the front gate was open and that a black Audi pulled into the yard.
“I thought it was the madam who opened the gate and called out, ‘Valerie did you open the gate’,” she said.
As Mokwena walked past the pantry, a man grabbed her by the back of her head and told her to keep quiet.
“One asked me if I was alone. He told me to behave myself as the other guy pushed me into the pantry,” said Mokwena.

The robbers left Mokwena in the pantry and began looting the house.
“I started praying and began to cry, fearing for my life. The same man came to me and told me not to cry, he asked where the main bedroom was, then kept close by, watching the front gate,” she said.

Mokwena heard the man shout out to the others, hurrying them along.
“I heard footsteps and then there was silence, I stood up and ran to the laundry to get my phone, I pressed the panic button and tried calling the madam but her phone just rang,” said Mokwena.
According to Mokwena, her employer returned home but was told to move her car by the robbers who pointed a gun at her. They also stole her phone and son’s school bag in the process.

The robbers managed to steal electronic equipment and jewellery among other items of value.
