Patrolman shot in cold blood

A member of the taxi patrol was allegedly shot when a patrol car stopped next to a suspicious vehicle along the Verena Road.

The man had been shot dead just outside Pine Ridge on November 30.
“I spoke to the driver of the taxi patrol and he told me what had happened,” said a witness who saw the commotion from a distance.
The witness and his uncle were at the garage when they recognised the three men in the red Toyota Corolla, and were talking about the taxi patrol at the time coincidentally.

The man and his uncle were on their way home to Pine Ridge, travelling behind the Corolla when they noticed it pick up speed.
“We were about to turn off when we saw something happening in the distance and headed out to where the Corolla was standing and found the passenger lying on the floor, he had been shot,” said the man.
The man and his uncle spoke to the driver of the Corolla who told his side of the story.

The Corolla was following the BMW from town and a short distance from the stop street in Pine Ridge the BMW pulled off along the dirt road.
Three women apparently exited from the rear passenger sides of the BMW. The Corolla pulled up alongside the BMW, its passenger got out and approached the BMW’s driver.
The driver of the BMW allegedly opened his door and the passenger leant over and shot the Corolla passenger. Additional shots were fired in the direction of the Corolla.

The BMW then sped off and apparently made a U-turn in the road before racing off towards the Kromdraai turnoff.
Police shortly arrived on scene and statements were taken. The passenger of the Corolla bled severely having being shot in the head and was apparently declared dead on scene.
“That BMW was at the garage waiting for passengers, it was like it wanted to be seen by the taxi patrol – I think it was a set up,” said the witness.

The victim of the shooting has not been formally identified by next of kin and no arrests have been made.

The witness’ name was withheld to protect his identity.
