Warning: Beware of vehicle-bumping hijackers

Witbank and Ogies SAPS have issued a warning to all members of the community and drivers on the road.

A fourth incident was reported where a vehicle was hijacked after suspects bumped the vehicle from behind, forcing the driver to stop and get out – making them easy targets.

On Sunday November 23, a shaken hijacking victim walked into Ogies Police Station. The man told police how he was on his way home in eMalahleni, driving through the Central Business District (CBD) when the incident occurred.
The victim had stopped at a crossing when another vehicle allegedly bumped into him. The man got out of his car to confront the two occupants of the other vehicle, when one of them allegedly pulled out a firearm.

The victim continued to describe to the police how he was threatened and hit with the firearm, then tied up with cable ties and forced into the boot of his own car.
The suspects allegedly drove the vehicle to Ogies/Phola were they stopped for gas at a filling station. They drove off again and the victim reported that he was able to peep through a gap in the vehicle to see that they were somewhere near Kendal Power Station.

After a while the suspects allegedly stopped the vehicle at a bridge near the N12 highway, where they let the man out of the boot. They untied him and told him to run without looking back. The man walked to a friend’s house in Phola, where he was taken to report the case at Ogies Police Station.
