Burglars in and out in a jiffy in Model Park

“They took about 10 minutes to burgle our home and steal our valuables,” said Ms Juanita Vogel.

On Sunday, November 16 the Vogel’s home in Model Park Extension 9 was burgled.
“They had to be watching the house, the burglary took place roughly 20 minutes after I left the house, thank goodness no one was home,” she added.

The suspects broke the lock on one of the gates, a swing gate, and managed to override a motorised gate. They then broke through the burglar proofing and front door.
“We have nearly everything in terms of home security, namely an electric fence, burglar proofing, activated alarms and CCTV, yet they still managed to pull it off,” Vogel added.

The suspects targeted specific items. They made their way into the main bedroom and removed the safe that was mounted to the wall. They also took a number of jewellery pieces and a laptop.
“That Toshiba laptop is my work’s laptop, I use it at Eskom, being part of their communications division,” said Vogel.

Vogel noted that the alarm had gone off and the response vehicle was there shortly after 10 minutes had passed.
“They were out and gone before the response got there, they also removed the computer system from the CCTV and pulled the outside camera out,” she said.

This isn’t the first burglary to occur in the area as a few weeks ago, a neighbour’s home was burgled in a similar fashion.
“The worst thing about it is the inconvenience and the invasion of one’s privacy,” said Vogel.
