Mob justice leads to murder

Vosman police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after two men were assaulted by a group of people.

According to the police, Mr M Mofokeng was at Costas Scrap Yard on Saturday, November 15 at about 15:00 to sell scrap.
While Mofokeng was waiting for his turn to sell the scrap, the suspect and his brother accused him of stealing from their house.
He denied the accusation and they started assaulting him. Mofokeng was then taken to the suspect’s residence, where a group of people was waiting for them.

He was allegedly further assaulted with a steel pipe and his attackers took him to his friend’s place, where they were both again assaulted with a sjambok. The pair was allegedly put in the back of a van and left there.
A woman saw the two and asked her grandson to take them to hospital. One of the victims was certified dead on arrival at the clinic while the other is recovering in hospital.

Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder and a man has been arrested.

Captain Klaas Maloka, Vosman Communication Officer is concerned about mob justice.
“Mob killing was never a solution to stop crime. Anyone who laid a hand on the deceased will face the full might of the law,” said Capt Maloka.
